HANSA VILLA: Budget Unawatuna Beach Hotel

HANSA VILLA: Budget Unawatuna Beach Hotel

Our stay in Hansa Villa was a spontaneous one. We were looking for budget accommodation in Unawatuna and we found that Hansa Villa had a spot open, so we booked it. The accommodation came with a number of glowing reviews, so we weren’t too worried.

I think we were nervous more because we made an on the spot decision which was very uncharacteristic of us. It was the first of many and it was an interesting experience.

Our criteria when booking this accommodation was that it had to be cheap, clean and be reasonably close to the beach. Hansa Villa ticked all those boxes and more.

I’m going to try something new and give the accommodation a score based on a couple of factors which will help you know what we thought about the place in a glance.

You are welcome to read on and see why we fell in love with this spot. I think more than the spot, it was the owners. As you can see, Hansa Villa has scored 5 stars in almost every area that we evaluated

Location

We really wanted to stay in one of those gorgeous villas on the beach. Unfortunately, even though we were travelling in the low season, the cost of staying in these spots was way beyond what we were willing to spend for one night.

Hansa Villa doesn’t give you a view of the beach from your room. It is however very close to the beach and it will just take you a couple of minutes’ walk to sink your toes into the warm sand.

Very nice and clean room, there is a nice balcony with a view on the monkeys 🙂 In 5 minutes you are at the center where al the shops and restaurants are.

The owner is really friendly. I even got a better room than I booked. there is laundry service and a fridge also. Everything you need for a really nice stay!

It is also located close to many restaurants and grocery shops so that is another bonus.

You do have to travel a good deal down one of the interior roads since the villa isn’t close to the main road. I count that as a bonus because it means that it is a quite and peaceful spot for your vacation. I can understand however if people feel differently.

Facilities

We found that there were a number of facilities that we could use within the villa. There were a number of rooms of all sizes depending on what you prefer. We found ourselves on the topmost floor with a view of the green forested backyard.

A fridge and a kitchen are available for any guest that wants to use them. There are two common areas where the guests can relax and enjoy their vacation along with an assortment of books to choose from.

The room was comfortable, the toilets were clean, and we had a small balcony with chairs on which we could relax on. I’m not sure if there were rooms that had air conditioning. We were on a budget so ours didn’t have one.

We had a fan and a mosquito net to keep us company and despite it being scalding outside, our room remained cool. One of the most attractive parts about the Hansa Villa is the amount of wildlife that you can catch a glimpse off.

From peacocks to monkeys, you can see it all from your balcony if you are vigilant. We had some monkeys that came to visit us, and they sat on the branches next to the balcony. I was equal parts thrilled and terrified!

Customer Service

I often think that customer service is what can make or break an experience. Hansa Villa is a testament to that. We had a wonderful time in the spot largely because of how friendly and nice the owners were.

They took the time to sit and chat with us, tell us about the best places to visit and even brought us a bananas from their garden so that we would have something to eat during our journey from Unawatuna to Tissamaharama.

Would I recommend staying in Hansa Villa? Definitely! It ticked all our boxes and we rather wished that we had more time to spend in the area.

If you are headed to Unawatuna and are looking for a budget friendly accommodation, then I would suggest trying Hansa Villa.
