April in Asia: 18 Perfect Places To Visit During The Month

April in Asia: 18 Perfect Places To Visit During The Month

The beauty about Asia is that it houses so many different countries, that you are spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a location. From snow capped mountains to gorgeous islands, the continent has it all. The more we explore it, the more we have begun to realize that narrowing down on a single location is best done by season and month that you are travelling. That is why we head into the fourth month of our series and talk about all the perfect locations that you can spend April in Asia.

As usual, we have collaborated with numerous travel bloggers to bring together the best of everyone’s experience in a single post that is designed to inspire you to pack your bags and hit the road.

China

As the fourth largest nation in the world, China definitely has a lot of terrain for you cover if you really want to explore the land. From what we have been told, China is a great alternative if you want to spend April in Asia. While we have not personally been to China yet, a couple of our colleagues have added some destinations to our list of places to visit in April in Asia.

1. Luoyang

Luoyang

Luoyang is a great place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Luoyang, Henan Province, People’s Republic of China

GETTING THERE: To reach Luoyang, first take an international flight to Beijing. From there you can either take an in internal flight (2 hours), fast train (4 hours) or overnight train (11 hours). Luoyang is also only 90 minutes by fast train from Xi’an which is a stop on many China itineraries.

WHERE TO STAY: As Luoyang is a major domestic tourist hotspot there are many accommodation options from hostels to 5* hotels (the latter are very inexpensive compared to Europe and the USA). The Hyatt Place Luoyang offers comfortable and modern rooms from $60 per night.

Luoyang is a city with a long history as it was once the capital of China and starting point of the Silk Road. The first and only empress of China, Wu Ze Tian (624 – 705), ruled from nearby Xi’an. Legend has it that she decreed all flowers to bloom in winter but the only ones to refuse were the peonies (the national symbol of China).  In a fit of rage, she ordered that all peonies be exiled to Luoyang where they have since flourished. Every April the city’s many parks come alive with these beautiful flowers.

The annual Peony Festival runs from 15th to 25th April when the flowers are at their peak and the city is awash with colour. Every park will have its own display but the best places to see them are Wangcheng Park, Sui & Tang Dynasty Botanic Gardens and the National Flower Gardens. Entrance to the parks costs from 20 yuan ($3).

It is not just Peonies that Luoyang is famous for. It is also the birthplace of both Chinese Buddhism (White Horse Temple) and the martial art of Kung Fu at nearby Shaolin. The UNESCO listed Longmen Grottoes are another site not to be missed. The grottoes are set into the hillsides along the Li River and contain thousands of statues of the Buddha carved into the rock. April is one of the best months to visit Luoyang as the days are long and warm with plenty of sunshine, but without the intense heat and humidity of the summer months.

2. Shanghai

Disneyland Shanghai Peanuts or Pretzels

Disneyland in Shanghai is a fun place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Shanghai

GETTING THERE: Shanghai, China is one of the top places to see and explore in Asia. A lot of people may think that you need a special visa to visit China, and that’s true for long visits.  But China has recently launched a number of “transit” visas which allow you to go out and explore on a stopover flight.  So, if you are flying to Bangkok from the States, then you can make a stopover and explore Shanghai for a long weekend with a 72 hour Transit Visa.

WHERE TO STAY: Shanghai is a very international city with significant Western-influence in the heart of China’s east coast. From budget hostels to extravagant resorts, where you choose to stay really just depends on your budget.  However, Airbnb is becoming more popular in China and for us, we loved our time staying at a townhouse in the French Concession area.  The beautiful tree-lined streets made for wonderful strolling or biking to fantastic restaurants, while also being central in the city and to major transportation.

Visiting Shanghai in April is much preferable over the summer, because it’s not as hot and humid.  If you are a Disney fan and love awesome roller coasters, then you will definitely want to fit in a visit to Shanghai Disneyland.  And of course, you can’t visit Shanghai and not stroll along with the world-famous Bund or some of the popular shopping streets nearby. Daytime is lovely, but night-time really brings the city to life in a special way.

Japan

Japan is an amazing country to spend April in Asia. The warmer weather makes the places so much more accessible. While snow is one of the reasons why people head to Japan, April brings about another popular attraction into focus, namely the cherry blossoms! Definitely an experience you should add to your list.

3. Kyoto

Kyoto

Kyoto is an intriguing place to visit in April in Asia.

LOCATION: Kyoto

GETTING THERE: There’s no airport in Kyoto. International travellers can fly into Kansai International Airport (Osaka) and then get to Kyoto via bus or train.

WHERE TO STAY: It’s highly recommended that you stay around Yamashina Station, where you will find a number of excellent Airbnb homestay and a few hotels in the local neighbourhood. The accommodation here is relatively inexpensive compared to the central city, though Yamasina is just one stop away from Kyoto station.

April is one of the best months to visit Kyoto. The warmer weather will make your trip much more enjoyable. Trust us, the last thing you want to experience is the summer heat in Japan! In addition, the city becomes more colourful as cherry blossom bloom beautifully during springtime. Note that the cherry blossom season is very important in Japanese culture.

Every year, the Maiko and Geiko of the Gion quarter gather at Minamiza Theatre to perform cherry blossom dance for Miyako Odori festival. The performance is typically 60 minutes, and it takes place from April 1-27. Do not miss this if you are in Kyoto in April. Get the premium ticket if possible, you won’t regret it.

Another highlight in April is the spring special opening of temples, where visitors get to explore the cultural properties that are usually not permitted for public viewings. These temples are Daitoku-ji, Kodaiji, Hohon-in, and Ginkakuji.

As a visitor, you will certainly want to view the cherry blossom. These are some of the top places to spot Sakura: Maruyama-koen Park, Arashiyama district, Kyoto Gosho, and the Path of Philosophy. Note that these places can get busy with all the Hanami (cherry blossom viewing party), so be sure you go there before 8 AM.

4. Osaka

Osaka Castle cherry blossom 2

The cherry blossoms make Osaka the perfect place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Osaka

GETTING THERE: There are flights to Osaka International Airport from the U.S, Europe and various destinations in Asia

WHERE TO STAY: Ritz Carlton

Osaka is one of the best places to visit in April, especially for the annual viewing of the Cherry Blossom in Japan. It’s not as famous as Kyoto and Tokyo, and won’t be as crowded, although it’s still spectacular.

Osaka is the third-largest city in Japan, and one of the most beautiful sites to visit during this time of the year is the Osaka Castle, which is an impressive landmark by itself, but also the home to a wonderful castle park with thousands of Cherry Blossom trees that will be in full bloom.

I suggest coming here in early April for Cherry Blossom, but the whole month is pleasant. It won’t be too cold, and the spring will start to come out and perhaps even offer some sunshine. Osaka is also home to the famous area known as Dotonbori with plenty of arcades and shops to explore as well as various bars and restaurants. In fact, Osaka is known as the Japanese food capital, and you can try many delicacies here.

Okonomiyaki is especially famous from Osaka along with takoyaki. These can be found in the food markets in stalls that are masters of these dishes. The food market of Kuromon Ichiba should also be visited if you enjoy trying local foods.

India

As an Indian, I have to tell you that the there is a diverse terrain in the country that you can explore at any time of the year. That was why it did not come as a surprise that one of the travel bloggers suggested added it to our list of places to visit in April in Asia.

5. Satkhol

Satkhol

Satkhol is another interesting place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Satkhol in Mukteshwar, Uttrakhand

GETTING THERE: The nearest airport of Pant Nagar is 60 Km. There is a direct flight from Dehradun. There is a direct flight from Delhi to Pant Nagar on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. There are direct buses from Delhi and other parts of North India for Satkhol. According to my experience, the most convenient and practical is traveling from Delhi to Kathgodam by train. From Kathgodam take a cab for Satkhol, several cabs are standing outside the railway station.

WHERE TO STAY: I travelled for meditation and spiritual reasons so I stayed in Satkhol Himalayan Ashram. There are a few hotels and AirBnbs in Satkhol. You can also stay in Mukteshwar where there are several good resorts.

Satkhol is a small town near Mukteshwar near Nainital in the Uttrakhand state of India. The weather remains pleasant in the summer months. April is a good time to travel to Satkhol because it is the beginning of the summer season in North India and the weather is very pleasant. Days are bright and sunny with a nip in the air sometimes. Nights at times get slightly colder but good weather.

In terms of tourism, Satkhol is still an offbeat travel destination in North India. It is away from the mad tourist rush. You can stay in a nice Airbnb homestay or cottage to relax. Since it is at the foothills of Himalayas so there are some nice easy trails in forest areas around it. It is a perfect place to watch Milkyway in the sky because of the good location for viewing it and moreover the sky is clear.

You can also visit and stay in Mukteshwar which is 20 Km from Satkhol. Mukteshwar is one of those places where famous Jim Corbett stayed and killed the maneater tigers. In Mukteshwar visit Chauli Ki Jali, which is a unique geographical formation. Also visit Bhalu Garh waterfalls, Mukteshwar Dham temple and Inspection Bangalow where Jim Corbett stayed. On the way to Satkhol, you can also stop or stay for a day in Bhimtal. There are a beautiful lake and a couple of other interesting places.

Iran

Iran is not a country that comes up very often. That was why I was really thrilled when one of the bloggers suggested adding it to our list of places to visit in April in Asia. The gorgeous pictures that she puts up on her blog really makes me want to visit it soon.

6. Shiraz

Shiraz

Searching for a place to spend April in Asia? Have you considered Shiraz?

LOCATION: Shiraz

GETTING THERE: You can either fly into Shiraz or take the night train from Tehran.

WHERE TO STAY: Niayesh hostel

If there is one city in Iran that embodies the Persian soul it is Shiraz. A city that is all about Persian culture whether it is in the form of poetry, Persian gardens, Islamic architecture or its colourful bazaars.

Two of the most important poets of Persian literature were born in Shiraz and the tomb of poet Hafez is almost like a pilgrimage site. Almost every Iranian has the book of Hafez and can recite a few of his poems. The tomb of Saadi is equally important.

Even though there is an impressive number of beautiful mosques and shrines in Shiraz, the city is more famous for its gardens. There are many examples of the typical Persian gardens. Many have beautifully decorated traditional homes that come along with them.

At last Shiraz is known for its handicrafts and fine arts such as mosaic works and silverware. The best place to see and buy them is in the bazaar. Shiraz has some of the most colourful bazaars in Iran with some of the most delicious food.

Shiraz is also a great base for a number of trips in the area. First of all, there are the archaeological remains of Persepolis, but is also possible to go into the mountains and meet the nomadic Qashqai tribes. For foreign travellers there is plenty of things to do in Shiraz and April is a great time with pleasant temperatures and blossoming flowers.

Laos

Laos is such a gorgeous country and while we have not crossed into its borders yet (we plan to soon), I always associate the country with lovely waterfalls and a lot of greenery. It was awesome to see that the country got added to our list of places to visit in April in Asia.

7. Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang

The gorgeous waterfalls in Luang Prabang are just one reason why you should spend April in Asia here.

LOCATION:  Luang Prabang

GETTING THERE: There are a couple of ways to get to Luang Prabang but we highly recommend you take the slow boat from Thailand down the Mekong to get there. You can also take a bus from within Laos or you can fly into the city as well from many neighbouring countries

WHERE TO STAY: Lotus Villa Boutique Hotel

Luang Prabang in Laos is a stunning place a complete mix of different cultures. You have big Colonial style buildings with the most amazing Asian touches you will see anywhere. If you are travelling to Luang Prabang with family, you will definitely find something for everyone.

With its hot temperatures in April you can go swimming at the Kuang Si Waterfalls or relax by your hotels pool and wait to watch an epic sunset over the Mekong River or Nam Khan River.

Once it has cooled off, you can wander the night market looking for a unique present to take home with you, get some tasty food at the stalls or get yourself a refreshing smoothie. Getting up early is also a must in Luang Prabang as you can watch the centuries old tradition of the Monks walking the streets in the ‘Giving of the Alms’ ceremony daily, followed by a bike ride around the city and a visit to help students practice English at the Big Brother Mouse school.

Malaysia

Malaysia is a popular location among travellers. Between the mainland and its numerous islands, there is a lot to explore. It is also a great place to explore in April in Asia. In fact, one of the places on our list is a forest reserve which is definitely the place you want to head to if you want to escape the more touristy areas.

8. Sungai Kapur Forest Reserve

sungai kapur borneo cruise

Thinking of spending your April in Asia surrounded by nature? Consider Sungai Kapoor forest reserve.

LOCATION: Sungai Kapur Forest Reserve

GETTING THERE: The Sungai Kapur wetland is a couple of hours drive east of Lahad Datu, which is connected by flight to Sabah’s capital Kota Kinabalu. Otherwise, fly from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau and proceed by bus, taxi or rental car to Lahad Datu.

WHERE TO STAY: Bike and Tours Bed and Breakfast in Lahad Datu organizes expeditions into Sungai Kapur’s forest

Sabah is a perfect place to visit in Asia in April. It’s right before the monsoon season and, even if you’ll see quite a number of tourists around, going to Sungai Kapur guarantees you’ll have the place practically to yourself. The Sungai Kapur wetland is an eco-system of mangroves, marshland and forest extending from the upper reaches of Tabin Wildlife reserve towards the Sulu Sea.

The area, which was affected by Islamic separatism and pirates in the nearby Filipino islands in 2014, is now under control. It is because of that reason that the Sungai Kapur area remained pristine and off the grid. Today, the only way to visit this remote jungle is taking a guided tour with Bike and Tours, and eco-tourism operator based in Lahad Datu. For two days, you will explore the waterways and Kampung Meruap, Borneo’s last village, founded on the edge of this forest by a single man 40 years ago, and you’ll have a completely different experience of the Sulu People.

By Marco from Monkey Rock World

Nepal

Nepal is definitely making its rounds as a popular destination among people heading this part of the world. The country is famous for its numerous trails and its rather wild terrain. I am so glad that it was put on our list of places to visit in April in Asia.

9. Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur

Seated in the Hamalayan range, Bhaktapur is a great place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Bhaktapur

GETTING THERE: It is a taxi ride from Kathmandu

WHERE TO STAY: Choose a guesthouse in the main centre

Bhaktapur better known as Place of devotees, is an ancient city in Nepal and a former Royal capital city. Steeped in history and rich culture with temples and artworks, it is the best preserved of the ancient kingdom cities. The city is listed as a World Heritage Site and has a large number of wonderful sights in it. Walking around is a delight with unexpected discoveries, interesting cultural sights and interactions with the very friendly locals.

Make sure not to miss the ornate palace complex that is in the Bhaktapur Durbar square, the intriguing tiered Nyatapola pagoda, and the 55 Window Palace historical landmark. Other sights worth finding are the Dattatreya Temple and Taumadhi square. It is fairly simple to get to Bhaktapur from Kathmandu. Located about 13 kms from the capital city it is just a one hour taxi ride away. Other options include a local bus or express bus.

Although the city suffered damage during the 2015 Nepal earthquake with many significant monuments and homes being destroyed, a large part has been restored or is currently under restoration and this special place is still very much worth a visit.

Philippines

Philippines as a country isn’t really that big but since it spans across so many islands, you will find that it has a lot of ground to cover and quite a bit of ocean too. In fact, it is the islands, the beaches and the gorgeous marine life that make Philippines so popular. You will find that April is a great month to explore this country too.

10. Coron

Getting Stamped Palawan

Palawan is a fun place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Coron

GETTING THERE: We usually always travel to the island by plane, as Cebu Pacific and Philippines Airlines both run several flights each day from Manila. Once you land, grab a taxi and make your way to Coron Town. Another option is to travel by ferry from Manila or El Nido. From Manila, you’ll go to Puerto Princesa to Coron, roughly 15 hours each leg.

The quicker option is to take the ferry from El Nido, only taking four hours to make it to Coron. Lastly, if you’re looking for the most unique and scenic ways to get to Coron, take an expedition cruise from El Nido. Choose from a three to five-day option, where you’ll stop and camp at various islands in between Coron and El Nido.

WHERE TO STAY: We recommend basing your stay in Coron Town, as the town has plenty of restaurants, tour operators and nightlife. While the action and adventure isn’t found in town, tourist spots and islands you want to see are just a boat ride away. In our experience, we enjoyed staying at Corto del Mar, and also suggest The Funny Lion hotel or the Two Seasons Coron Island Resort & Spa.

April is a great time to visit Coron, it’s considered one of the dry months which means more sunny days in the forecast. At night the temperatures are comfortable with a low of 73 and a high of 90 during the day. Which if you ask us is perfect!

South Korea

South Korea is another gorgeous place to visit in April in Asia. In fact, from what I see, more and more people are heading to the country and tourism is really picking up. South Korea has a lot of beautiful places to explore and it is also rich in culture. Take a look at the suggestions that were given.

11. Busan

Busan

Busan is the perfect place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Busan.  This is South Korea’s second-most populous city located in the south-eastern tip of the country.

GETTING THERE: The city is well-connected to the country’s capital with a direct high-speed rail connection and multiple daily direct flights.  In addition, Korea’s road and rail network also offers good connections in between Busan and the country’s other tourist highlights.

WHERE TO STAY: The city is very spread-out and continues to grow fast as the city’s prosperous economy and pleasant climate continues to draw new habitants. When you visit the city for the first time, take some time to think about where to stay in Busan depending on what you want to see and do.

We recommend first-time visitors to stay in Seomyeon because it offers the best access to public transport.  If you mainly want to shop or spend time on the beach there’re other districts which will suit you more.

The location near Korea’s south-eastern coast makes Busan a paradise for lovers of fresh seafood.  The city also has several of Korea’s best beaches and every year lots of locals and tourists are drawn here to work on their tan.  Haeundae and Gwangali beach are often recognized as the best beaches to be found in South-Korea.

The mountainous region that borders the city on the north and west attracts many hikers and shopaholics will love the large shopping malls of Lotte and Shinsegae. But that’s not all that Busan has to offer. Visitors should also take some time to wander through the maze of narrow and colorful streets found in the Gamcheon Cultural village.

All tourists are also blown-away by the beauty of the Haedong Yonggungsa temple. This photogenic temple is known as the Water temple for its location along the coastline and it offers breathtaking views. A last example of Busan’s beautiful coastline is located a little to the South of the city’s center.  Taejongdae Resort park is a beautiful peninsula that offers breathtaking views.  What we loved most about this park is the spectacular rocky coastline.  During the summer months visitors can take boat tours to see these cliffs from the sea.

12. Jeju

Jeju

Jeju is a fun place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Jeju

WHERE TO STAY: La Pause Pension in Seogwipo City is a modern design resort that features 7 rooms with a magnificent view of the ocean and surrounding nature.

Each room has a clean and sleek design, and some of them have a private mini pool. The suites are about a 15-minute drive away from Seogwipo town center and it is a great choice for those who are driving around the island.

The seasonal sceneries in Korea are enchanting like Japan. While the natural color changes monthly from Spring to Fall, the vibrant pink of cherry blossom in March transition to yellow of Canola in April – and the best place to view this phenomenon is in Jeju Island.

Korea has an exciting cherry blossom all over the country, but canola could mostly be seen in Jeju. Canola blossom is at its best in April and tourists could find them in various locations on the island including Seongsan, Jeju Horse Park in Noksan-ro, Sanbangsan, and Udo.

For an island the size of 1,800 sq kilometer, it has a lot to see and do and tourists can experience a lot in a week – enjoy a cup of coffee and have a warm bread in one of the iconic seaside cafés; admire the dramatic the coastline and rock formation along the coast in one of the olle (hiking trail) that surround the entire island; catch a horse-race event in a racecourse; take a hike up the Unesco Heritage, Hallasan; visit the Innisfree Jeju House and Osulloc Tea Museum and learn about the tea plantation culture in Korea; relax in one of the secluded resorts; and taste the special Korea cuisine and fresh seafood!

13. Seoul

Seoul 1

Seoul is another amazing location to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Seoul

GETTING THERE: Seoul is served by two international airports, Gimpo and Incheon. Although Gimpo International Airport is the closest to the city, you’re likely to fly into Incheon International Airport, which caters to longer international flights. From here, you can get into town by AREX train (30 mins), bus or taxi (1 hr).

WHERE TO STAY: Seoul has plenty of excellent accommodation options. If you want to be near most of the tourist spots, stay in Insa-dong. Those looking to enjoy some retail therapy while still being near to some of the city’s best attractions might prefer basing themselves in Myeon-dong.

South Korea’s capital city, Seoul, has so much to offer travellers planning a visit in April. From age-old palaces and hanoks revered for their unique architecture and deep-rooted history to plenty of museums, galleries, markets, and quick nature escapes. Here, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy.

However, getting a closer look into the past and ticking the top attractions off your list aren’t the only reasons why Seoul should be high on your destination hit-list! For a few short weeks in early April, the city turns to blush pink as the cherry blossom season makes its arrival. The city starts to warm up, and the streets are teeming with tourists hunting for cherry blossoms. Although you’ll find cherry blossoms all over town, some of the best viewing spots include Seokchon Lake, the “Five Palaces,” and Namsan Park.

Those looking to escape the crowds can head over to Itaewon – a peaceful neighborhood jam-packed with colorful streets, hipster hangouts, and plenty of photo opportunities. Further afield, getting lost in the maze of alleyways of Insa-dong, dropping by Bunchok Hanok Village, and enjoying some retail therapy at Myeondong or Gangnam should not be missed either. Spend at least four days in Seoul to get a taste of what this fascinating city has on offer.

Thailand

Thailand is an amazing country. For me it will always be the country that I travelled to first and the one that stoked my wanderlust. That being said, Thailand like so many other countries on the continent has a varied landscape. It is however best known for its gorgeous coastline and iconic islands.

It definitely deserves a place on our list of places to visit in April in Asia. Plus there are loads of great resorts in Thailand that you can really indulge your senses in.

14. Koh Phagnan

Nomad and In Love in Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is a lovely place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Koh Phangan

GETTING THERE: You can easily get to Koh Phangan island with bus and ferry transport from Bangkok and Phuket. If you’re tight on time, you can also fly directly into Koh Samui airport and take a quick ferry ride from there to Koh Phangan.

WHERE TO STAY: There are many great accommodation options in Koh Phangan, from affordable backpackers and hostels to luxury spa resorts. Besides your budget, another factor to consider before booking accommodation is which beaches you want to explore. We stayed in Koh Ma Beach Resort on the north part of the island. You’ll love this side of the island if you want to easily access the best snorkelling beach in Koh Phangan without joining a boat tour.

Koh Phangan island is located in the southeast of Thailand, between Koh Samui and Koh Tao. The island is most well known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand. It’s also known for hosting the first Full Moon Party back in 1985. Outside of the full moon period, it is a less touristy island compared to its bigger, sister island Koh Samui.

During this time, you can easily find a beach with hardly anybody on it, even in April when it is still high peak season. So, if you’re all about exploring the island by motorbike and beach bumming all day away from tourist crowds, this is the perfect island for you. It may be a small island, but it has over 30 beaches to discover. Whether you’re looking for the best beach for sunsets, best vibe or even a beach all to yourself, you can easily find it in Koh Phangan.

Besides beautiful beaches, you can also hike in the Koh Phangan National Park and visit a waterfall or two. If you’re adventurous, you can hike from Haad Khom Beach over the mountains to Bottle Beach. It takes around 2-3 hours to get there, but the views from the top will certainly be worth it.

By Chloe and Michael from Nomad and in Love

U.A.E.

The United Arab Emirates or more commonly known as the U.A.E. is a popular place to visit in April in Asia largely because of the fact that it isn’t too hot yet. While the weather is just beginning to warm up, it is still really pleasant enough to wander around and explore the numerous sites that the country has to offer.

15. Dubai

Dubai in April

As you can imagine, Dubai is a famous place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Dubai, on the Arabian Gulf, United Arab Emirates

GETTING THERE: Dubai’s International Airport DXB is the busiest airport in the world, directly connecting to 270 destinations

WHERE TO STAY: Enjoy the best of the beach weather by staying in JBR

Shining skyscrapers and shimmering sandy desert dunes, it’s during April you can truly see why Dubai is referred to as the City of Gold.  April marks the end of the cooler winter months and the start of the long desert summer, punctuated by perfect pool weather and the finale of many seasonal spectaculars including Dubai Global Village, Dubai Miracle Garden & Dubai Garden Glow.

With day time temperatures hovering in the mid-30’s, it’s clear to see why Dubai has become such a popular spring break destination – from its family-friendly amusement parks to sophisticated dining and night life scene and everything in between. Dubai is a great location for both traditional cultural experiences and modern shopping and leisure. A great way to get a taster of both is joining an evening desert safari.

Note that the holy month of Ramadan will fall over the peak tourism month of April for the next few years.  This is by no means a reason not to visit, just something to be mindful of in terms of your behaviour as a tourist and the opening hours of some attractions.  The city comes to life at night with the Iftar (breaking of the fast) celebrations and you are sure to find a truly unique Arabian experience visiting Dubai during Ramadan.

Vietnam

Vietnam was on my bucket list ever since I bumped into a fellow traveller in Thailand who talked about it. The way he described it, made me long to visit the country. Thankfully, this was one location that I managed to tick off my bucket list and I am happy to report that it was everything that he described and more. In fact, it also happens to be one of my favourite countries on the continent. That is why I was overjoyed to see that it was added to our list of places to visit in April in Asia.

16. Nha Trang

nha trang

Have you considered Nha Trang as a place to spend April in Asia.

LOCATION: Nha Trang

GETTING THERE: The best way to get to Nha Trang from outside Vietnam is by plane. The City has its own airport and flying there is easy. Also, flights within the country are usually cheap and frequent too. If you are traveling from Ho Chi Minh or Da Nang, I recommend taking a sleeper-bus. Even though it takes between 8 and 9 hours to travel, the ride is comfortable and picturesque.

WHERE TO STAY: There are so many gorgeous hotels and cute guest houses where to stay in Nha Trang. During the time my husband and I lived in this vibrant city, we had many staycations in hotels. Some of the most epic ones were Sheraton Hotel & Spa, Intercontinental Nha Trang and Rosaka.

April is really a wonderful time to visit Nha Trang in Central Vietnam. The reason for that is sunny weather with clear skies, fewer tourists and plenty of things to do. Nha Trang in April is a transitional period from the dry season to the wet. Yes, the humidity is on the rise, but the sea gets calmer and there are very few rainy days, not more than 4-5 per month.

If you would like to go to the beach, the water temperature off the coast is about +28C degrees, although the waves in April are still high.

Nha Trang is a very dynamic and well-developed Vietnamese resort city. Here, besides the beach holiday, travellers can pay a visit to one of many nightclubs, go sightseeing, have a boat trip to neighbouring islands, soak in hot springs and of course drink litters of the most delicious coffee. Also, April is a month for the annual religious Po Nagar festival of Cham people who worship and honour their gods and release thousands of lanterns on the Kai River.

17. Sapa

Sapa Vietnam

I can say with confidence that Sapa is a great place to spend April in Asia

LOCATION: Sapa

GETTING THERE: Sapa is located about a 9-hour train ride and a 5.5-hour bus ride from Hanoi. You can book a bus or train ride from pretty much any corner in Hanoi, at a travel planning desk. To cut the middleman out, go straight to the train or bus station to pre-book your travels.

WHERE TO STAY: If you are a backpacker, we recommend staying at Mountain View Hostel. The views from the main lobby are epic and they serve free beer in the afternoons!

Sapa is a town located in Vietnam that is famous for its gorgeous terrain and mountains. Many people enjoy going to Sapa to hike in the Hoang Lien Son mountains and accompany their hike with a homestay. The month of April is one of the best times to visit Sapa, as it is the dry and warm season, making trekking much more enjoyable!

Sapa is home to different hill tribes such as the Hmong and Red Dao tribes. Visitors can sign up for a hike/homestay guided by a Hmong or Red Dao woman who will teach you all about Sapa and the surrounding villages and what life is like living in a hill tribe.

We recommend making sure you book a hike/homestay with a reputable tour company as Sapa has grown so much over the past couple of years many of the locals are being exploited and taken advantage of. Two reputable tour companies that value their employees, pay fair wages and give back to the community are Sapa O’Chau and Sapa Sisters.

The Hoang Lien Son mountain range is actually the most eastern part of the Himalayan mountains and the mountains are dotted with rice terraces. The hill tribes carved the rice terraces into the side of the mountains in order to grow rice and other crops.
